PITTSBURGH, Pa. (October 28, 2005) — The $6.5 million financial package offered to American Eagle Outfitters will enable the company to purchase a new headquarters building in Southside Works.

Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell today announced the investment of nearly $6.5 million to support American Eagle Outfitters’ new corporate headquarters and the creation of 325 new jobs. American Eagle is relocating from Warrendale to Pittsburgh and expanding its distribution center in Warrendale.

In addition to creating 325 jobs within three years, the project will retain 690 existing jobs.

The $6.5 million financial package offered to American Eagle Outfitters through the Governor’s Action Team will enable the company to purchase a new headquarters building in Southside Works. The relocation will free up space for the expansion of the company’s distribution center in Warrendale.

The Governor’s Action Team, comprised of economic-development professionals who report directly to Governor Rendell and Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Yablonsky, teamed with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Department of Development to assist American Eagle Outfitters with this project.

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has offered the company a financial package totaling $6.47 million that includes: $4 million from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority ($2 million for the acquisition of the new Pittsburgh headquarters and $2 million for the construction and build-out of the Warrendale distribution center); a $1 million Opportunity Grant; $500,000 in Job Training Assistance; and $975,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits.

The Governor also noted that the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh has a pending application into DCED for $3 million through the Infrastructure and Facilities Improvement Program to support American Eagle’s project.

American Eagle Outfitters is a leading lifestyle retailer that designs, markets, and sells its own brand of relaxed, casual clothing for 15 to 25 year olds, providing high-quality merchandise at affordable prices. The company currently operates 784 stores in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and 71 stores in Canada.
